PUNCTUATED PROGRESS
W
elcome to the first Wealth
Advisor Magazine of the new
year. We’ve decided to skip the
standard menu of review and
preview because whether we’re
summing up the past or predicting the future,
it’s a waste of paper.
Unless you slept through last year, you
don’t need us to sum it up.You were there,
kept your own records and collected your own
memories. And in the modern informationdrenched environment, who has time to stare
at the rearview mirror?
Every advisor needs to keep one foot in the
present where our clients are and the other in
the future where they want to be. But the problem with the future is that it keeps coming, week by week and minute by minute.
The annual calendar flip is only the way we mark the slow seasonal cycle.
Meanwhile, the work of enhancing investor outcomes goes on. Think of the
“incremental improvement” management consultants love so much. Every day, in
every way, you’re doing something better for your clients, adding value. Progress
happens behind the headlines and between the once-a-year ball drops.
If you wait for the calendar flip to demonstrate to your clients that you’re ahead
of the cycle, you’ve already lost. Either they won’t be around to read your newsletter or they aren’t paying attention at all.
Give them a little credit. Their phones light up just like yours. They’re paying attention. When you’re winning, don’t wait months for the calendar flip. That’s what
we do here every issue.
This time around, we’re going back to the ETF landscape to explore some of the
most interesting funds we’ve encountered lately. Time-tested giants alongside sassy
startups pushing the efficient frontier day by day, squeezing crumbs of alpha that
add up nicely along the way.
The new Publisher’s Corner department gives you an advance look at where
we’re going, especially in the brave “new” world of artificial intelligence. Strap in.
Prepare for speed.
And as always, we spend a few pages on updates from TAMPs, direct index
platforms, and other areas of the industry where we never take our eye off the
ball: the investment and support platforms that are expanding their reach in the
background.
That’s where the future happens. Pay attention to that pulse and the noise will
fade away.
